Freud interpretations of dreams actually implied that there was a meaning to them by replacing that meaning with something that works as a link into the chain of mental arts symbolic dreams “I must affirm that dreams really have a meaning and that a scientific procedure for interpreting them is possible” Sigmund Freud

Surrealism emerged out of DADA movement of the 1st World War. The most important practise for the surrealists was the development of methods towards the liberation of imagration. This filled perfectly with Freud’s theory of interpretation of dreams.
